We offer a full range of professional services for writers, including copyediting, proofreading, developmental editing and mentoring. Whether you’re working on your next novel, short story, essay or paper, we can help.
Copyediting, Proofreading & Formatting
Copyediting
$10-$24 (CAD) per 1000 words ($100 minimum).
Copyediting is the second set of eyes you didn’t know you needed. In the first revision, I’ll make sure there is consistency in style (your author’s voice), story (character, plot, and setting details), and technicals (capitalization, numerals, hyphenation). After you’ve had a chance to apply any changes, my second revision will focus on remaining proofreading errors (see below).
Proofreading
$4-$8 (CAD) per 1000 words ($40 minimum).
Proofreading smooths out the finer points in your writing to ensure your piece is ready to be shared. This service includes one revision to correct errors in spelling, grammar, syntax & punctuation.
Formatting
$65-105 (CAD) per manuscript.
Formatting turns your manuscript into uploadable files for eBook and/or paperback for Amazon. Other formats may be subject to additional fees.
Sample Editing
For a detailed quote or to submit work for sample editing (up to 5,000 words), please email me directly at erikaleclairauthor@gmail.com. For manuscripts under 10,000 words, I will read the document and email you back with an idea of what corrections will be made.
Pricing
Pricing is in Canadian. Payment is accepted through PayPal. For files over 10,000 words, 50% is paid up front and 50% is paid upon completion. For files under 10,000 words, full payment is made up front. Formatting services are paid up front.
Developmental Editing, Mentoring & Coaching

Developmental Editing
AKA substantive, structural or comprehensive editing.
$10 – $16 (CAD) per 1000 words ($100 minimum).
Unlike copyediting, developmental editing tends to focus on earlier drafts of a manuscript rather than a finished, polished product. As such, it’s less about grammar and spelling, and more about working directly with the writer to develop their manuscript. This can be an incredibly collaborative process, with a strong focus on structure and story-arcs, language and word-craft, scene-building, worldbuilding and (of course!) characters.
What you get from me: copious amounts of notes, and one-on-one sessions (usually lasting an hour) where we will go over and discuss everything. One-on-one sessions can happen in person where possible, online via Zoom, or by phone.
Pricing
Pricing is in Canadian. Payment is accepted through PayPal. For Developmental Editing, 50% is paid up front and 50% is paid upon completion.

Writer-Mentoring / Coaching

$85 (CAD) per session.
This is for writers working on a first or second draft, and looking to take their writing to the next level!
The focus here is on progressing your craft, while adding more tools to your writer’s toolbox. Sessions last one hour (minimum), and are based around feedback of the writer’s submission (up to 5k words), as well as instruction, tips and guides to make your writing more active and impactful.
What you get from me: copious amounts of notes, as we zero in on the aspects of your writing that may need extra attention. No stone gets left unturned here. Story structure, character, voice, scene construction, worldbuilding and even good old-fashioned grammar are on the table for discussion.
Coaching sessions can happen in person (where possible), online via Zoom, or by phone.

Pricing is in Canadian. Payment is accepted through PayPal. For mentoring/coaching sessions, full payment is made up front.
